If you are using the Managed Service, how you fill out this form will be critical in your success in recruiting a trustee. Follow the guidance below on How to attract a skilled volunteer. If you do have any questions then please call us on 020 7582 6543 or email trusteeworks@reachskills.org.uk and we will be pleased to help you.

Please fill out ALL the fields. The information you provide will be used to:

  • identify appropriate skilled volunteer candidates, and
  • attract volunteers to your role

If you are using the Premium Service, the information you provide us on this form will serve as a starting point for our discussions with you.

How to Attract a Skilled Volunteer

Your opportunity will be one of many competing for our volunteers’ attention and skilled volunteers are in great demand. To stand out from other requests, your role needs to sound appealing. Try and view the information you provide from the perspective of a volunteer.

Your organisation

Many skilled volunteers are motivated by a voluntary organisation’s mission and objectives so ensure that you communicate your purpose and activities well.

The role

  • The role and 20-word summary are vital - these will be the very first thing prospective volunteers will see, so choose your words carefully.
  • Role title: If you want to recruit a trustee with a particular area of expertise or responsibility please specify in the title – for example Trustee with HR expertise.
  • Summary section: this acts as a headline advert for your role. If you can make the role sound interesting and convey a sense of the importance of your organisation’s work you will attract volunteer interest. Please note that there is a 20 word limit to this section.
  • Role description and context: give a clear, accurate and attractive description of the position you want to fill. Don’t detail the roles and responsibilities of trustees in general – our volunteers will be prompted to look at this information through our resources pages. Use this space to specify the responsibilities of this particular position and the skills, experience and other qualities which you are looking for. Provide information about the composition of the board and its current priorities and how they relate to this role. Mention any key relationships with staff, support available, membership of sub committees and  other relevant information.
  • For treasurer roles please specify which qualifications you require (but please don’t ask for qualifications which are not essential as this may reduce your chances of finding someone suitable).

Time commitment and location

Please specify how many meetings the charity trustee will be expected to attend and when and where they occur. If you have additional away days or expect trustees to belong to a subcommittee, please include this

Benefits to the volunteer

What might the volunteer gain from the position? Do you provide an induction, training or any other support? Highlight any useful or interesting experiences that the role might provide.
