Cookie Policy

Reach Volunteering (“Reach”) provides you access to www.reachskills.org.uk and other Reach sites (the “Site”) and may gather information about you when you use the Site by using cookies.

A cookie is a text-only string of information that a website transfers to the cookie file of the browser on your computer’s hard disk so that the website can remember who you are. A cookie will typically contain the name of the domain from which the cookie has come, the “lifetime” of the cookie, and a value, usually a randomly generated unique number. Cookies can help a website to arrange content to match your preferred interests more quickly and are used by most major websites. Cookies cannot be used by themselves to identify you. Click here to find out more about cookies.

How Reach use cookies on the Site and what information Reach collects

Two types of cookies are used on the Site:

Session Cookies

These are temporary cookies that remain in the cookie file of your browser until you leave the Site. Reach uses session cookies to:

  • Help us authenticate you as a registered user, giving you access to your user profile and certain otherwise inaccessible areas of the Site.
  • Track the number of visits to the Site.
  • Track which advertising banners are seen on the Site.
  • Compile anonymous statistics that allow us to understand how users use the Site such as details of the pages visited per session on the Site and the number of return visits to the Site (Reach cannot identify you personally in this way).
  • Enable personalisation of the Site.

Persistent Cookies

These remain in the cookie file of your browser for much longer than session cookies (though how long will depend on the lifetime of the specific cookie). Reach uses persistent cookies to:

  • Enable the Site to remember who you are and authenticate you automatically if you did not log out at the end of your previous session. Some areas of the Site do not accept this level of security and you will need to enter your user name and password again.
  • Allow the collection of certain anonymous statistics about how Reach’s registered users use the Site, for example, statistics on how many registered users have logged in to the Site, the number of return visits, etc (Reach cannot identify you personally in this way).
  • Enable advanced personalisation of the Site.

Third Party Cookies

Third party organisations that are related to Reach use cookies via this Site, but only for the purposes of helping Reach to authenticate you as a registered user, giving you access to certain third party websites.

Disabling / Enabling Cookies

You have the ability to accept or decline cookies by modifying the settings in your browser. However you may not be able to use all the interactive features of our site if cookies are disabled. Please click here to find out how to disable/enable cookies.
