Action for Refugees in Lewisham benefits from Paddy Ross' fund raising skills
Founded just two years ago Action for Refugees  offers an advice service in specialist areas such as housing, education and housing and a family learning centre. Iolanda Chirico, the charity’s co-ordinator asked Reach for an experienced trustee to help implement their recently completed business plan.
Having held senior marketing positions for a variety of financial institutions Paddy Ross was able to bring his strategic perspective to the organisation and provide guidance on funding applications. This helped to secure the future of this small organisation and meant that the support offered to needy refugees has been extended and broadened.
Barnet Mencap asks for charity trustee with marketing skills
For over forty years, Barnet Mencap has provided  support and services to people with a learning disability and their family carers. Services include short breaks, supported housing and learning and leisure projects. The charity asked Reach for a trustee with a marketing background to provide guidance on specific issues such as publicity as well as providing a strategic focus for the organisation. Although it is early days, Sharon Emecz, who has an extensive career background in marketing and communications, has already sat on a fundraising sub-committee meeting. "I enjoyed being able to contribute my professional experience to such a good cause" Sharon says.
Sharon will be put forward as a Director at the next AGM. Sheila Mortimer, Chair, is looking forward to “a positive and successful relationship.”
Bristol Refugee Rights gets help with legal and governance issues
Bristol Refugee Rights provides a place of welcome where asylum seekers and refugees can be helped to play a full part in the life of the wider community. The charity offers British culture and language classes, advice and advocacy, social activities and provides links to other organisations that work with new arrivals and new refugees. Dr. Jitendra Shah joined the organisation as a trustee working on governance issues for the group which recently gained charitable status. His legal experience and his extensive career in management sciences has enabled him to provide advice on both practical and campaigning work. His help means that the organisation can raise awareness of the difficult issues around Refugee Rights.
